Why BMI is useful

BMI is deliberately simple: it relates body weight to height and makes trends easy to follow.

Calicen uses below 25 as the target because higher total body mass increases the work required of the cardiovascular system, regardless of whether that mass is fat or muscle.

Formula used

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²)

Weight at BMI 24.9 = 24.9 × height² (m²)
