- Transition — Finish feeling warmer and clearer—not tired—then begin the main session.
What to avoid
Z1 is preparation, not a fitness test. The warm-up fails when it creates fatigue or hides warning signals.
- Intensity creep — Slow down if conversation is no longer effortless or heart rate leaves roughly 50–60% HRmax.
- Too long — Stop at 10–20 minutes; longer aerobic work belongs in a separate session.
- Ignored feedback — Modify the main workout if the warm-up reveals sharp pain, unusual breathlessness, or marked asymmetry.
